In the News: Penguins, Rock Bands, Aliens and Moomins
A few different pieces of app news have crossed my radar today which I just had to share! We’ve been exploring a fantastic new Nosy Crow app, revisiting two favourite apps which have gone free for a limited time, and checking out a new Moomin app – with a copy to give away.
First up, Rounds: Parker Penguin by Nosy Crow has been released today. This is the follow-up to Franklin Frog in the Rounds series, a clever non-fiction series based on life cycles which teaches children natural history facts in a very engaging way. This app was comfortingly familiar to my children who took to it like ducks (penguins?) to water after spending so much time reading Franklin Frog this year. This second instalment has the same high standards, fantastic facts and lots of fun helping the penguins slip and slide on the ice and glide through the water. It’s an icy midwinter treat! Nosy Crow are giving away a copy on their blog (leave a comment by tomorrow, Friday 14 December) or you can download the app now for £2.99 by clicking on the picture below.
Hurry hurry, Toca Band by Toca Boca is free for a limited time! See my quick review in my music app round up and click on the picture below to go to the App Store.
And tomorrow, Friday 14 December, pick up Alien Buddies by Artgig Studios for free too – a fun app which I featured in this post. Click the picture below to go to the App Store.
Finally, we’ve been having so much fun today playing with the Moomin Costume Party, released yesterday. You can dress Moomintroll or the Snork Maiden in a range of smart, funny and peculiar outfits, take a photo and save to the gallery. Mr Tall and Little Miss Chatterbox spent most of the time rolling the dice to get a random combination of clothes and accessories, resulting in fits of giggles. A very sweet app, and did I mention it has Moomins?
Thanks to the developers Spinfy I have one code to give away for Moomin Costume Party. If you would like a chance to receive it, just comment below mentioning your favourite Moomin character by 22:00 GMT tomorrow, Friday 14 December 2012. I will use www.random.org to choose the winner. If I cannot contact a winner before 21 December 2012, I will draw another. Code expires on 8 January 2013.
EDIT 15 December Congratulations to paolaot – your code is on its way to you.
Click on the picture to purchase the app for 69p (at time of writing).
After a lot of deliberation, I’ve settled on Little My 🙂 Fingers crossed for a win!
For me, my favourite would have to be The Snork Maiden. It’s so great to be able to share all these characters from my childhood with my daughter 🙂
Moominmamma, of course!
