Play with Bizzy Bear – code giveaway

Last week Nosy Crow launched their latest story app, Bizzy Bear Builds a House. In our house this merits a bit of a fanfare, as the very first app we bought was their Three Little Pigs, and ever since then we’ve been hooked on their brilliant apps.

Bizzy Bear on the FarmThe Bizzy Bear apps are based on the series of board books by Benji Davies, and are aimed at 2 to 4 year olds. Bizzy Bear on the Farm, launched last year, lets children play at being farmer for the day, helping Bizzy with his tasks around the farm. Little Miss Chatterbox loves to collect the eggs, feed the pigs, and drive the tractor into the barn. There is a lot of humour in the scenes, from a slippery slidey snail on the henhouse roof to a family of happy harmonising ducks in the pond.

Bizzy Bear Builds a HouseBizzy Bear Builds a House is reassuringly familiar with the same bright, cheerful illustrations, energetic music, and consistency in the story structure. Bizzy Bear always arrives by bus, and then gets ready for his day, by putting on his wellies on the farm, or donning a hard hat at the building site. The tasks are just as engaging, using diggers, cranes and other machinery and tools to help Bizzy build the house. The same sense of fun is there too, from the pigeons hiding around the building site to the portaloo which flushes when you touch it.

One of the lovely features of these stories is the focus on helpfulness and politeness. The characters often say “please” and “thank you,” which is excellent at reinforcing this type of language with young children. The stories are primarily told through dialogue, narrated by children, with lots of questions to get the reader actively involved. All Nosy Crow titles now also come with text highlighting to help early readers.
